Since our Matric Farewell was, without a doubt, the major event on the Waterberg social calendar, I thought you might like to see a few more pictures of the glittering event and “the beautiful people” who attended it.

History Speech Contest

Lucy is congratulated in assembly.

On 21 September Lucy Calcott travelled to St Mary’s, Waverley to compete in a History Speech Contest. Lucy chose The Six Day War as her topic as this was a subject from her Grade 10 year which had interested her and which she felt would interest an audience. She competed against speakers from six other prestigious schools in Pretoria in the Grade 11 category.

In true Lucy fashion, she applied her mind to the task at hand and prepared an interesting and engaging speech supported by an excellent powerpoint presentation. For her speech she was awarded the Best speech in Grade 11 award, and to this was added the Best Visual Presentation in Grade 11 award. Congratulations, Lucy! We are very proud of you.

Archery

Many of our archers are in Port Elizabeth taking part in the Archery Nationals either as part of the School Team or the Provincial Team. Many of our archers have shot personal bests at the competition and Mr Bridger was heard to surmise that the team may have shot its best team score ever today. Nadja Nortje will be shooting later this afternoon in a “shootout” for a position placement in the Inter Provincial Competition which took place earlier in the week. Hold thumbs for Nadja and the Team and . . . watch this space!
