Green smiles as Waterberg Academy receive International Eco-Status Award.
Seven years of dedicated work and Eco awareness by staff and pupils has culminated in Waterberg Academy being awarded the coveted WESA international eco-schools award.
Mrs. Tersia Van Dyk, co-ordinator of the EcoPortfolio, successfully led the school through the multitude of projects required to meet the criteria for this prestigious award.
Pupils participated in a host of activities and projects ranging from the integration of the Eco-Calendar in the broader curriculum, to an indigenous tree nursery and the establishment of a community vegetable garden. Even the school grounds are kept in a natural state to encourage the habitation of small mammals and provide a safe haven for the Waterberg’s diverse bird life.
Vaalwater can be proud to have a school ranked in amongst the few Eco-elite schools worldwide. A green “thumbs up”
