Headmaster’s News Letter – 5 September 2014

Horse Show

The horse show was well attended and some 10 of our learners participated. Special thanks to Beverly of Equinox and Hester van der Wath for setting this event up on Dr Poortier’s farm. The horse riding community is certainly growing in Vaalwater.

Eisteddfod – Waterberg Arts Festival

Ben, Josh and Lili Baber and Daniel van Coller attended a GDTA day in Pretoria on Saturday. They did tennis drills followed by singles matches. Thanks are due to Gerrie Dippenaar for this opportunity and especially to Simone Baber who is championing tennis at Waterberg Academy. There are posters of a local tennis coach up around the school and a joint effort between ourselves and Laerskool is building momentum. If you would like to know more about this, please contact Simone.

Rhino Day

On Wednesday 17 September we will celebrate RHINO DAY at Waterberg Academy. This will take the form of a civvies day at the usual fee of R5 to go to the Save The Waterberg Rhino organization. Learners will be encouraged to wear “save the rhino” themed tee-shits, caps, bracelets etc that they might have. Save The Waterberg Rhino will also be on site to sell some of their items and will advertise their presence.

In addition, our Senior Prep learners will participate in an Art project to build a rhino sculpture out of recycled material. Also, we will do a “Pin the R10 note onto the rhino” competition. Two targets will be hidden under a huge picture of a rhino and those who pin their notes closest will win one of two R100 prizes that have been donated.
