2016 was the fourth year that Waterberg Academy has represented NASP Archery This sport was taken to new heights and our archers really showed that we can hold our own amongst the best in the country. The dedicated archery range which was built on campus last year was used to its fullest extent. This is a valuable new asset to the school.
A few Limpopo Inter-school competitions were hosted at Waterberg Academy and our school was represented by a total of 11 archers in the Limpopo Team, 3 in the Junior Limpopo Team and 3 in the Limpopo Development team. It was also a great pleasure to have 4 of our learners chosen for the South African Development Team that participated in the All Nation All Stars Championship that was held at Alpine Heath in the Drakensberg.
2016 also saw the first South African National Championships and the Inter-Provincial Championship was held over a 2 day period at the Equi-Dome in Kyalami. Our team competed against 700 other archers from all over the country and Waterberg Academy are proud of their efforts. Natasha Muringisi impressed with a second place under the category; Senior Girls Development.
We would also like to congratulate Shannon Carlton on being selected for the National South African Team for 2017. He has become the first learner from Waterberg Academy and the first learner in the Limpopo province to be part of the South African National team. He has been ranked 11th overall in South Africa. This is an outstanding achievement for this young man.
Some of our BAIT coaches also trained new BAI this year, hereby growing the sport in the school. This is a great sport and is one of the Academy’s top contributions to the sports program.
